Manchester boasts more than 134 parks, gardens and open spaces, and almost 30 informal open spaces within the city. Place's like the Irk, Medlock and Mersey River Valleys. This green recreational resource comprises of 1,266 hectares, or 11% of Manchester's land use.

There are also over 90 children's play areas across the city, which are some of the safest in the country according to the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
