Securing empty commercial premises

Open void commercial premises must be secured, and where these properties are causing major problems, an enforcement notice (requesting that the owner secures the premises) will be served. If the owners do not secure the building within a reasonable period (2 days), the City Council will secure the premises and charge the cost to the owner of the building.

In exceptional cases of long term abandoned derelict and vacant properties, the City Council Valuation and Property Group may consider compulsory purchase of the property.
