Noise problems

Service Outline

Many noise problems, particularly those involving neighbours, can be resolved informally, for example, by explaining to your neighbours the difficulties they are causing.

Approach your neighbour and explain politely that you are being troubled by noise. You may find this difficult, but often people are unaware that they are causing a problem.

However, approach the matter carefully if you think your neighbour might react angrily to a complaint. If this approach fails the Council may be able to help.

There are two departments that deal with noise complaints:

ASBAT (Anti Social Behaviour Action Team) - investigate noise complaints that relate to loud noise coming from a neighbours TV's, Radio, CD players and other musical equipment, contact ASBAT on 0161 234 4612 or email asb.action.team@manchester.gov.uk

The Public Protection Team - investigate all other noise complaints e.g. barking dogs, loud shouting and burglar/car alarms.
