Benefits - fraud: Outline

Preventing and detecting benefit fraud in Manchester is the work of the Fraud Investigations Group, Corporate Services Department.

We are a dedicated team who undertake investigations into allegations of benefit fraud which are received from members of the public, members of the Council, officers of the Council and other Government departments and from the results of national and local data matching.

We investigate fraud in these areas

  • Housing Benefit / Council Tax Benefit
  • Council Tax evasion
  • Renovation grant claims
  • Asylum assistance claims
  • Compensation claims against Manchester City Council
