Service Outline
We are responsible for gully emptying, highway drainage and the emergency clearance of gullies and drains when flooding to the road or pavement occurs.
Gullies are the slotted grids at the edge of the road, there are over 100,000 of them across the city - issues with either manholes or sewers should be reported direct to United Utilities.
The owner or occupant is responsible for the repair and clearing of blocked drains within private properties.
We are also responsible for maintaining and attending to floods from 'small' rivers and streams, we do not deal with floods on:
- private land this is the responsibility of the owner;
- 'main' rivers as this is the responsibility of the Environment Agency;
- or canals as this is the responsibility of the British Waterways.
