Manchester City Council adopted the definition of the social model of disability in 1991. We did this after working in partnership and taking the advice of disabled people's organisations in the city.
A disabled people's organisation is an organisation which is managed by a management or executive committee on which disabled people hold at least 51% of its voting membership.
