Health and safety at work - regulation and inspection

Service Outline

Manchester City Council carries out regular checks on local businesses and business premises to ensure that safe and healthy working conditions are provided for all employees and visitors.

We undertake:

• Inspections of business premises and work with businesses to ensure conditions are satisfactory and safe.
• investigation of accidents at work which involve either staff or the general public.
• Investigation of complaints relating to health and safety.

Manchester City Council deals with health and safety in offices, shops, warehouses, restaurants, pubs and clubs, leisure premises, care homes and private nurseries.

We do not deal with Council buildings and employees, hospitals, manufacturing (including food manufacturers), or the construction industry. These are dealt with by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
