Opening hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9am to 5pm
  • Wednesday and Friday: Closed
  • Saturday 9am to 5pm (second and fourth of the month only)
  • It is essential to book a place in advance. For collections stored on-site, all requests must be received by 12 noon on the working day prior to your visit. To book a place please email or telephone us.
  • Please email next-day requests for appointments on Thursdays and Saturdays by 12 noon on Wednesday or Friday respectively as our phone line will not be monitored on these days.

Please note some collections are kept off site and we require 2 weeks' notice in order to retrieve them. To book a place please email us.

For all bookings we will need to know:

  • Your name.
  • The day and time of your visit.
  • Your telephone number.
  • Details of the document(s) you wish to view including their reference number (if known), title, and date.
  • Whether you require laptop access.
  • Whether you have any access arrangements.

The Greater Manchester County Record Office is a member of the County Archive Research Network (CARN), so a reader's ticket is essential. This can be obtained free of charge from the office on production of identification with name, address and signature.

Please note all digital and microfilm sources must be accessed at the Manchester Room@City Library.

Please note that we are unable to accept any new accessions to our collections until we re-open at Central Library in 2014.
