The Trading Standards Service is responsible to the City Council for the enforcement of a broad range of legislation. Some of that legislation covers the health and welfare of animals.
The Service oversee the welfare of animals during transit and control the movement and importation of animals to prevent the spread of dangerous diseases e.g. rabies, avian influenza, foot and mouth etc. They also enforce legislation relating to the composition and labelling of animal feeding stuffs.
