Young carers
Service Outline
Young Carers are children and young people under 18 who provide care, to another family member who is disabled, or has some chronic illness, mental health problem or other condition connected with a need for care, support or supervision. They carry out, often on a regular basis, significant or substantial caring tasks and assume a level of responsibility, which would usually be associated with an adult.
Young carers may care in a variety of ways for example:
- Emotionally (reassuring, comforting etc)
- Physically (including intimate care, administering medication)
- Organisationally (paying bills, arranging appointments)
It is important that we identify Young Carers because caring significantly impacts on them and they may be missing school, be unable to form friendship networks and suffer poor physical and mental health as a result.
There are 3 workers dedicated to carrying out Young Carers Assessments.
