It is both legal and acceptable to choose educate your children at home.
We would like to work with families that make this choice to help their children have the best home education experience possible. We believe this is best achieved where parents and the Local Authority recognise each other's rights and responsibilities and work together.
You can choose different ways to support your children's learning and don't need formal teaching qualifications or to follow the national curriculum.
For more information see our Educating your child at home pages.
You can also visit the Department for Education (DfS) website or the Education Otherwise website which provides support and information for families whose children are being educated outside school.
