Home is Manchester

The high spot of today will be the homecoming for the Manchester and North West linked athletes who took part in the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games earlier this year. Come along to Albert Square at 6pm tonight and there will be an opportunity to see around 40 of the athletes who took part in the games with such phenomenal success.

Those invited include all the athletes resident in or training in Manchester as well as medal winners from across the North West. In Beijing, Britain won 47 Olympic and 102 Paralympic medals. Of these, athletes linked to Manchester won a remarkable 18 Olympic medals ( 8 Gold, 5 Silver, 5 Bronze ) and 37 Paralympic medals ( 28 Gold, 13 Silver, 14 Bronze ). These athletes made the whole nation feel proud so let's make sure they get the great Manchester welcome that they deserve and let's keep finger's crossed that the wind and rain holds off at least for a couple of hours.
