Ricky Hatton at the Town Hall

The Town Hall was overtaken today by squads of boxing fans who were here to see Ricky Hatton square up on home turf to his next opponent Floyd Mayweather Junior. The two will fight each other in Las Vegas on December 8, and this was a promotional tour to

I wonder if Mayweather knew just how many fans Hatton has here in Manchester? And so many were wearing some kit associated with Manchester City Football club.

There was a press conference in our Great Hall, with international media cameras sitting alongside the fabulous historic mural painted by Ford Maddox Brown. The verbal banter was broadcast on big screens out into Albert Square.

And our Lord Mayor Glynn Evans and our city centre spokesman Pat Karney presented Ricky Hatton with the city's top accolade, a Manchester: Making It Happen award.  Ricky's a great ambassador for the city and keeps his feet on the ground. Good luck on December 8.
