A new market for Gorton

Today sees the start of an exciting project for Gorton - the former Co-op building is being converted into a new Market Hall as part of a new shopping centre for this part of the city.

When it opens in summer next year, it should be just like a traditional market but in modern 21st century surroundings. Good quality hot and cold food, stalls to browse around and the opportunity to meet up with friends and neighbours as well as doing your shopping. Good markets can play a vital role in creating strong communities, where people know and care for their neighbours. And there'll be the convenience of a modern supermarket too, with one of the big names setting up an Express store as part of the project. It's taken years to get this project off the ground but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
