Manchester Building Schools for the Future & Academies Programme

Building Schools for the Future Programme

Building schools for the Future is a strategic approach to capital investment in secondary school buildings that will create new environments and facilities to support the Government's agenda of educational transformation.

Under the scheme, every child will be educated in a 21st Century environment within 15 years. Schools will be rebuilt, remodelled or upgraded to provide flexible, inclusive, attractive learning environments in which teachers want to teach and pupils want to learn.

The schools will have high quality facilities and integrated information technology to help deliver personalised learning tailored to the needs, interests and aptitudes of every child.

Building Schools for the Future will allow for innovative organisation of the school structure and hours to support workforce reform, involve the community by providing access to its facilities, and provide for new collaborative arrangements.

This programme is about more than bricks and mortar and new classrooms. The construction of these new spaces for children and young people provides schools with a greater opportunity for us to foster talent and provide the skills that young people need to succeed in the world of work.

The BSF programme will transform learning and teaching environments with high quality, sustainable designs. Integrated ICT and virtual learning platforms will transform the learning experience creating opportunities and ultimately raising standards.

Manchester has a combined Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and Academies programme with a £500m capital investment to rebuild or refurbish 33 schools, 7 of which will be specialist academies.
