Manchester City Council

Removal of street furniture

  1. What the project will do

We’ll be getting out across the city, clearing footpaths blocked by any old or broken signpost legs and planters that aren’t used anymore.

We’ll be focusing on parts of north and east Manchester at first. Clearing pavements and public areas of unnecessary clutter. If this is successful we’ll do it in the rest of the city.

There will be less litter once the empty planters are taken away, and street cleaners or ‘ground maintenance crews’ will be able keep pavements and pieces of open land cleaner, as their cleaning machines will have better access to footpaths.

We’ve already earmarked 100 items to get rid of, so it’s a big job, but one well worth doing.

  2. How much funding this project was given

    £250,000
