Composting at Woodhouse Park Allotments

  1. What the project will do

Composting is a great way to get rid of waste and feed your allotment. Down at Woodhouse Park allotments we’ll be making it easier, giving out new compost bins, one for every two plots.

But compost bins can only take garden and organic waste, so we’re also setting up a dozen wormeries. This will let the allotmenteers recycle their food waste too. Putting leftovers and plate scrapings to good use.

Wormeries produce a nutritious soil additive. This means you don’t have to spend as much on fertiliser. We’re hoping the idea will spread and other people might be tempted to compost more or even set up their own wormery.

Composting will cut the cost of getting rid of waste from the site and make for better plants, fruit and veg too!
