What the project will do
Moston Brook, passes through New Moston and Newton Heath with woodlands on either side which were planted on former landfill sites and railway tracks. This underused and run-down green area in north Manchester will be transformed thanks to this grant.
We’ll create four new entrances with ‘storyboard’ signs telling people about about the brook, and attractive stone walls to give it all a ‘country park’ look. These will also put off vandals and people riding off-road bikes.
The money will also pay for an overgrown area of the site off Broadway to be cleared. We will work with residents and volunteers to deal with litter and fly tipping, and to clear overgrown areas.
We will work with residents and the Moston Brook Partnership to look after the site. The Moston Brook Partnership includes Oldham Council, The Canal and River Trust, The Wildlife Trust, The Environment Agency and United Utilities.
