  • Summary

    A small society lottery is promoted on behalf of a non-commercial society. A society is non-commercial if it is established and conducted:
    a) for charitable purposes
    b) for the purpose of enabling participation in, or of supporting, sport, athletics or cultural activity, or
    c) for any other non-commercial purpose other than that of private gain.

    The total value of tickets put on sale in a single lottery cannot exceed £20,000 and the aggregate value of tickets put on sale in a calendar year cannot exceed £250,000. If these llimits are exceeded the lottery will be a large society lottery and a licence will be required from the Gambling Commission.

    Every Society registered with a local Licensing Authority to run Small Society Lotteries must submit a returns form following each draw.

  • Validity / Renewals

    Registration is subject to an annual fee of £20.

    Manchester City Council will send an invoice for the £20 annual fee to the correspondence address we hold.
  • Relevant legislation

    In order to conduct a small lottery the promoting society must be registered with the local authority in which the principal premises of the society are situated.

    A statement of return must be submitted within the period of three months beginning with the day on which the draw (or last draw) in the lottery took place.

    Upon completion of your application you will be required to confirm that you:
    a) have read fully and understood the contents of this form and any supporting information and agree to the terms and/or conditions set out within;
    b) understand that by submitting this application, you consent to Manchester City Council passing on the data within this application and its supporting documents to any authority or person that will assist its determination of this application, or as required by law;
    c) declare that the information provided is true to the best of your knowledge and belief;
    d) understand that if any false information is provided you may be guilty of an offence and liable to prosecution;
    e) understand that if the application is authorised you must inform the authority about any changes to circumstances that mean you no longer meet the conditions for the authorisation;
    f) understand where a statutory declaration has been provided it may be forwarded to Greater Manchester Police;
