Poisons licence

  1. Summary

    For a person to sell any non-medicinal poison which is a substance included in Part II of the Poisons List, they must be either a person lawfully conducting a retail pharmacy business (and the sale is effected on premises which are a registered pharmacy), or their name must be entered in a local authority’s list in respect of the premises on which the poison is sold.

    A listed seller cannot sell poisons which are included in Part I of the Poisons List (see guidance notes); these may only be sold by a pharmacist.

    A person's name shall be retained on the list for the period of twelve months beginning on 1 April each year. An application must be made before 31 March each year to retain a person's name on the list for each subsequent 12-month period.
