Tree guard removal

  1. What the project will do

Tree guards are put round newly planted trees to protect them from vandalism, animals and vehicles. Unfortunately they also create problems if people drop litter in the gap between the mesh and the tree. The guards make it difficult to get rid of the litter and any weeds that grow.

There are 850 trees in the city, that have grown enough for us to remove the guard.

This project includes pruning the “epicormic growth” (twiggy growth at the base) as well as any damaged, diseased or low branches, removing weeds and litter and, where appropriate, putting down a ‘soil top-dressing’ like wood chips.
