Are school dinners fixed at a national set price, or does it vary from school to school?
The Education and Inspections Act 2006 gave schools the 'power' to charge for meals as opposed to a 'duty' to charge which was the position previously. Where schools have a delegated budget, the governing body has the responsibility of setting charges. Manchester City Council recommends an annual school meal price to schools following benchmarking against other Local Authorities in the North West.
