What training and support are available?
Manchester Governor Support and Training Service provides a comprehensive free training programme, and in church schools governors may also attend Diocese training.
All new governors are given an induction pack and we offer telephone support, a small library of literature, regular newsletters and reports on governance issues. Each governing body is serviced by a clerk who can be approached with any questions and some governing bodies operate a mentoring system where experienced governors assist new governors.
There are also national governors' organisations which offer literature, advice and other resources In addition there is a national information website for governors provided by the DCSF and a phone enquiries service, Governorline, on 0800 072 2181.
