What was the process for the decision to close Central Library?

Councillor Mike Amesbury, the Executive Member for Arts & Leisure is the decision-maker about any library closures, and he has been consulted, and ultimately authorised, the decision to close Central Library for a three-year period in accordance with our phased closure plan. Manchester City Council is investing heavily in its library service and has made a commitment to have replaced or refurbished every library in the city within the next five years. The temporary closure of Central Library is a key part of this plan, designed to give the city a flagship library of which it can be proud.
