How can I stop roosters from crowing early in the morning?

Crowing cockerels can cause noise nuisance and complaints will be investigated. To avoid causing problems for neighbours you can:

  • Try raising the perch or lowering the roof of the coop so your cockerel cannot stretch his neck to crow.
  • Use black out material over your coop so sunlight can't get in and stimulate your cockerel into crowing during the early hours.
  • Be considerate to your neighbours by siting your coop away from their property.
  • Reduce the number of cockerels. Having more than one cockerel will cause competition and an increase in crowing.

Remember, you do not need a cockerel in order for your chickens to lay eggs.
