The School Governance Unit at Manchester City Council has been re-established to provide training, advice and support to school governors in Manchester and to ensure that governing bodies, and therefore schools, are linked to the strategic vision of the city.
The School Governance Unit will:
- Recruit and induct new Local Authority Governors according to a revised person specification and in partnership with schools, ensuring that people with the right skills are placed on the right governing bodies.
- Keep Local Authority Governors up-to-date on MCC's education strategy as well as including them in the regeneration agenda in their school's area.
- Develop further links with organisations such as the Manchester Governors Association, the Schools' Alliance and the Strategic Education Partnership.
- Provide free training for all school governors in the city.
The School Governance Unit will be updating this web area over time to provide news and resources in anticipation of our launch in spring 2013.
