Deansgate-Castlefield tram station

Work completed, station open

There are two new track crossovers at the Deansgate-Castlefield tram station, allowing trams to turn back in both directions. This will make the station an interchange, giving you more choice of where to go.

Green tracks - planted with trays of Sedum Grass - have been installed to help reduce any potentially flooding to tracks during heavy rain and storms.

A third platform has been built and is open. There’s a new lift and two new staircases at the Deansgate end and Albion Street end allowing easier access for everyone to the station.

The footbridge that links the Deansgate-Castlefield stop with Deansgate Rail Station has been renovated and is now open.

Major landscaping work has been carried out including tree planting at the stop and the station now benefits from a "Living Wall" – a self-sufficient vertical garden – providing a green oasis in the heart of the city.

Whilst work continues in the city to build the Second City Crossing you may need to allow a little more time for your travel.  See how nearby roads are affected at www.gmroadworks.org. Or, see where your nearest Park & Ride is.
