Ordsall Chord: transforming rail travel
Work due to finish 2017
A new section of track linking Castlefield junction in Ordsall to Deal Street junction, means that Manchester’s three main train stations will be joined up for the first time.
Network Rail is investing over £1bn making significant improvements to the north of England’s railway including the creation of the Ordsall Chord. Not only will the new viaduct connect Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria stations for the first time, but it will allow faster and more frequent services to run in and out of the city, easing congestion and making space for more trains. Earlier this year we completed essential work such as track realignment, demolishing a bridge and installing a new one as well as arch strengthening. Watch the work taking place.
