Recycling rates increase as residents use new bin service
Changes to the waste service have already seen an increase in the amount of recycling collected across Manchester.
We'd like to thank everyone who is recycling more and is working with us to make sure the good work continues.
You're now able to recycle more than half of everything they throw away, by making sure all paper and cardboard goes into your blue bin.
Meanwhile, all glass, tins and cans should go into your brown bin, along with any plastic bottles such as sun tan lotion bottles from summer holidays.
As part of the changes to collections, you now have your black rubbish bins collected every other week, while all food waste is being collected weekly.
Food waste can be placed into a compostable liner inside your kitchen caddy. Once this is full, it should be placed into the large green wheelie bins with the garden waste, or into small green bins, before being collected and the contents turned into compost.
We've changed the way we collect rubbish and recycling because the amount of landfill tax we have to pay to bury our rubbish is increasing over the next few years.
And remember - homes are only allowed to have one rubbish bin unless six or more people live there or the occupant has a medical condition that creates extra rubbish. We no longer collect extra rubbish left at the side or top of black waste bins but if you all your recycling services will you'll be able to fit all your rubbish easily into their black bin.
Why not have a look at our online services that can help you recycle more and throw away less. You can use these to:
