Environmental problems Alleys and alleygating

What are alleygates?

Alley-gated gardens on Wallworth Avenue in Gorton

Since 2003 over 2,500 alleygates have been erected across Manchester. Alley gating is a crime prevention method that directly tackles burglary, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour by restricting access to the rear of houses.

Lockable metal gates are erected at strategic points, allowing unrestricted access to the residents while keeping out criminals and people seeking to make trouble.

We have no planned gating programme for 2013/14.
