Academies Programme

Manchester aims to transform the education of children in the city with seven academies planned to open by September, 2010.

Employers and businesses are working with Manchester City Council to create a new kind of secondary education.

The sponsors of each of the seven academies share the city council's commitment to enhance education in the city by combining their expertise, knowledge and skills for the benefit of academy pupils.

They in turn will be able to learn about the world of work, increase their motivation, and acquire all the education and skills to enable them to become effective members of their community and workplace.

Sponsors include Manchester City Council, Manchester Airport, Willow Park Housing Trust, The Manchester College, BT, the Co-operative Group, Laing O'Rourke, Bovis Lend Lease, and the Central Manchester and Manchester Children's NHS Trust.

The proposed new Academies are:

  • The Co-operative Academy of Manchester
  • Manchester Communication Academy
  • Manchester Health Academy
  • East Manchester Academy
  • Manchester Enterprise Academy
  • Manchester Creative and Media Academies
