Volunteer for the youth justice service
Effective youth justice services require the involvement of their local community, and there are a couple of volunteering roles available now:
- Mentor: for young people at risk, a volunteer mentor from their own community is someone they can rely on, and who is not associated with other adults in authority
- Youth offender panel members: give the community a say in creating effective programmes to ensure young people who offend repair the harm they’ve done and are given help to prevent further offending
We’re looking for volunteers who reflect the diversity of the area they come from, in terms of age, gender, ethnic origin and social background.
All volunteers will need to provide references to show they’re suitable to work with young people, and mentors will need to undergo DBS (formerly CRB) checks.
You don’t need any formal qualifications to volunteer, but you should be prepared to take part in training.
