The Active Lifestyles Service is partnership between Manchester City Council and Public Health Manchester and is a dedicated city wide Physical Activity Service providing new and exciting programmes to help all of Manchester's communities "Get Active and Stay Active".
Background Information
Manchester City Council's Active Lifestyle's is the first city wide, joined up, strategic service of its kind providing a preventative and population based approach that is in direct response to the growing health risks and implications of physical inactivity. Active Lifestyles provides a unique service that delivers a bespoke physical activity programme in its own right and is Manchester's lead service for the development and delivery of supported physical activity.
The primary aim of the Active Lifestyle's Service is to improve the health and well being of all Manchester residents, so they are able to play an active role in their community and be connected to the economic success the city achieves and experiences. There is also a particular emphasis on sections of the population that face the most severe inequalities and who are at risk due to living a sedentary lifestyle.
The key outcomes of this will be to reduce the number of residents who are at risk of diseases related to inactivity and obesity by increasing physical activity levels, improve well being and therefore increase the overall health, life expectancy and quality of life of Manchester residents.
Active Lifestyles is committed to improving the health and well being of all Manchester residents - from baby and toddler funquatics to 60+ Back to Bikes, bespoke weight loss programmes for children, adults and the family, streetdance, dodgeball and urban mania skateboarding - there really is something for everyone - for more information on how you and your family can get active please visit www.manchester.gov.uk/activelifestyles or call the Active Lifestyles Team on 0161 232 3100.
