Social services Groups for young people

The Change Group – The Care Leavers Council

This group is open to all young people who use the leaving care service and have a personal adviser – so this can be people aged 16 to 25. They meet regularly on Wednesday nights from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

It’s a forum to talk about issues that affect young people who are in, or have left care so that services can be developed and improved. They also plan events at The Curve, fundraise, campaign on care leavers issues, and attend forums, events and panels to give their views.

The Children’s Services manager attends the meeting once every few months so issues can be raised, and other agencies come along to the meetings to chat to the group about lots of different things like housing and health.

What young members have said:

  • “The group has helped me to bring up my ideas”
  • "The Change Group gets me out of the house, builds my confidence and helps me make friends. It gives me the chance to be me and get things off my chest”
  • “The group has helped me change – I’ve become confident at mixing, talking and just being around people in general. I’m trying to turn things around for myself and for others”

The Change Group meet at:
