Skateboarding in parks
Skateboarding is a well established sport linked to a strong fashion and music culture, and Manchester Leisure is keen to give young people somewhere to practice their skating skills.
Manchester is committed to encouraging young people to exercise and engage in activities through provision of sports they enjoy, based in a safe and secure environment.
Manchester Leisure has recently developed two major exciting and innovative skateparks, taking a positive approach to health and safety requirements to eliminate foreseeable dangers in the environment, without denying the challenge and adventure essential for well-being and development through play.
The skateparks are situated at Platt Fields Park and on London Road beneath the Mancunian Way. Both have well built pipes, banks, hips and grind rails and incorporate excellent transitions, and include elements that are unique to Manchester, with the added benefit of complementing each other, achieving a different experience at each site.
Both sites exceed the European PAS35 standards, and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) has been involved from the outset to ensure that these standards were achieved.
There are numerous other skate facilities in parks around the city. Features include quarter pipes, funboxes, spine ramps and grid rails. For more details of all sites, please follow the links...
