Housing support for older or vulnerable people

Find the support you need: the Supporting People programme

The Supporting People programme offers vulnerable people the opportunity to improve the quality of their lives. It can provide a stable environment and greater independence.

What is housing support?

Housing support helps make it easier for people to live independently. It can help people avoid homelessness or an undesirable move into an institution. It can provide a refuge for homeless people or those at risk.

Practical support could include:

  • someone to help you manage money and pay bills
  • a community alarm service or a warden on hand
  • expert advice about maintaining your tenancy

Who provides support?

A vast range of organisations provide support across Manchester: the city council, private companies, voluntary organisations, the NHS, home improvement agencies, not-for-profit landlords and charities and others.

The city council co-ordinates all these support services. Every provider has a contract with the council to provide agreed levels of support. We review all services to ensure that support is high quality, and value-for-money.
