Tenant involvement
What is a tenants' group?
A tenants' group is an organisation formed by local people in an area of council housing. It is run by volunteers and must be open to everyone who lives in the area it covers.
The group may concentrate only on local housing issues, or it could get involved in wider housing policies that affect everyone in Manchester. It could work just on housing, or it could be involved in a whole range of community issues. To get involved in the housing service, and to qualify for funding, a group must be officially 'recognised' by the council.
Playing a vital role
An active and responsible group plays a vital role in building and sustaining a healthy community. It makes sure that local housing staff provide the services local people want. And by getting involved in decisions about city-wide housing policies, it can help shape the housing service for all tenants.
We can help you set up, and run tenant and resident groups. We can provide advice, support and training as well as grant funding.
