What is the Community Alarm Service?
The Community Alarm Service is operated from a control centre based in Wenlock Way, West Gorton, Manchester. A city wide service is offered to Manchester residents who need support to live independently in their own homes. There are many reasons why people need support, from ill health to fear of crime. The Community Alarm Service operates 365 days 24 hours a day. Your call is answered within seconds by an experienced Response Officer who can summon help from the 24 hour Response team, Emergency Services, your Doctor or a nominated relative or contact.
What equipment do I need?
The only equipment you require is a telephone landline and an electrical socket. We will supply the alarm unit with a pendant. The pendant can be worn around the neck or on a wrist strap. The pendant alarm and unit both have a button which when pressed alerts the control centre staff. The telephone line is opened up via the trigger button and you can simply speak to the response officer from wherever you are within the house. The equipment has full battery back up, so we can still respond if your power fails. You are requested to press your pendant once a month to test your unit is working properly. Failure to test your unit puts you at risk. Please be aware all our calls are recorded for quality and training purposes.
How can I get my alarm?
Phone Contact Manchester and explain to the Contact Officer why you require a Community Alarm. If no other services are required, the Contact Office will send the information directly to the Community Alarm service.
How much will it cost?
If you receive housing benefit, income support, guaranteed pension credit or full council tax rebate then the response and monitoring service will be free to Manchester residents. If you are receiving no benefits the charge for the alarm, response and monitoring service will be charged at £18.46 per month.
