Dinghy sailing
Start sailing - level 1 (weekend course)
Course fee - £139.00
This course provides a short introduction to sailing for novices. By the end of the course you will have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge. After completing the course you will be able to hire a dinghy at the Centre. It is recommended that you consolidate this short introduction with the Basic Skills Level 2 course.

Basic skills - level 2 (weekend course)
Course fee - £139.00
On completion of this course, the successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing a dinghy without an Instructor on board in light winds. The course includes sessions on rigging, ropework, sailing techniques and manoeuvres, launching and recovery, capsize recovery, racing, sailing theory and background knowledge. It will be assumed that very student starting this course has already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge required for Starting Sailing Level 1.

Better sailing - level 3 (weekend course)
Course fee - £139.00
On completion of the course the successful sailor will be safety conscious and capable os sailing without an instructor on board in ligh to moderate conditions. The improver course seeks to bridge the gap between Basic Skills (L2) and the advanced modules and is intended to make the transition easier for those sailors wishing to progress further through the scheme, allowing the opportunity to practice and consolidate sailing techniques and experience some of the activities that the advanced modules have to offer.

Seamanship skills (weekend course)
Course fee - £128.00
On completion of the course the successful sailor will be capable of manoeuvring a dinghy in a seamanlike manner and making seamanship decisions in moderate conditions. The course involves sessions on ropework, launching and recovery, sailing techniques and manoeuvres, sailing theory and background knowledge, capsize recovery and meteorology. It will be assumed that every student starting this course has already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge required for level 2/3.

Start racing

On completion of the course the successful sailor will understand how to sail performance dinghies in all wind conditions that they can expect to encounter, sailing the boat to the best advantage at all times. The emphasis is on coaching to improve the candidates sailing performance. It will be assumed that every student starting this course has already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge required for level 2/3.

Sailing with spinnakers (weekend course)

On completion of this course the successful sailor will understand how to sail a dinghy rigged with an asymetric or symetric spinnaker. The course includes sessions on rigging including spinnaker and trapeze, sailing to good advantage, spinnaker hoist, gybe & drop as crew or helm, capsize recovery, and sailing theory and background.

Family sailing weekend (weekend course)
Course fees - £139.00 (adults), £68.00 (youth)
This course is designed to introduce the exciting sport of dinghy sailing to families. Adults and children are taught together. Private courses can also be arranged, please contact the centre for details.

RYA dinghy instructor
Course fee - £350.00
The Instructor is a competent and experienced small boat sailor, capable of sailing a training dinghy confidently in strong winds and capable of handling small powerboats, and competent to teach sailing to adults and children, both beginners and improvers. Candidates will be required to pass an assessment of personal sailing ability before being accepted for instructor training. This is a 50 hour course. Courses are run on demand, please contact the Centre for further information.
