Types of Fostering

Short-Term Fostering

Short-term foster care usually results from problems or illness in the family, or the child being harmed, abused or neglected. A short-term foster placement can range from an overnight stay, up to two years.

Short-term foster care offers the child a safe and secure place to live, you will help them to understand what is happening and to maintain links with their family. During this social workers will be working towards either reuniting the child with their family, or finding them another family to live with permanently through long-term fostering or adoption.

Foster carers have an important part to play during this time, both in making sure children receive the help and care they need, and in working with them to prepare them for moving on.
