Why Foster for Manchester?

Almost constant fostering placements. Our aim is to place all fostered children internally we are therefore able to offer more continuous placements then most private fostering agencies.

Manchester Foster Care Association (MFCA) provides support for all of Manchester City Councils foster carers. Newly approved carers are matched with an experienced carer; they will make sure new foster carers have access to all services available. These include:

  • Advice and support from experienced foster carers
  • A Link Officer is available to newly registered foster carers in the first year
  • A comprehensive support service to help foster carers who wish to make a complaint or allegation, or who have had one made against them
  • 24 hour helpline
  • Training for foster carers.

Manchester Leisure Pass. This is a scheme to enable children and young people who are looked after by Manchester City Council to have free access to sporting and leisure opportunities within the city. The scheme allows foster carers and their children to exercise as a whole family group, admitting up to 5 children with 1 named foster carer.

Externally recognised training to a high standard. Foster carers also have the opportunity to become trainers and to help deliver Skills to Foster preparation groups to new perspective foster carers.

Allowances in line with Fostering Network recommendations.

Additional expenses including birthday, holiday, Christmas/religious festival and travel expenses.

Regular visits, support and supervision from your supervising social worker

Access to a range of specialist services, such as: psychology, family support and the Foster Care Support Team.

Manchester is a leading authority in recruiting and approving gay, lesbian and bi-sexual foster carers and adopters.
