Equip Yourself for Independent Living

Equipment for Bedrooms, Bathrooms and Personal Care

There are small items to help with getting dressed and undressed, like shoe horns or aids to help with shoes, socks or tights. You can also get equipment to help you get in and out of bed.

Bathing and showering can be made easier too. A long-handled sponge can help you wash without having to bend or stretch, and there is equipment to help you get in and out of the bath or to use the shower safely. You can also get a raised toilet seat or support rails to help you use the toilet.

You will be able to find out more about these items from the High Street.

Getting out and about

Some people find it difficult to walk, and walking sticks and walking frames can provide the extra support that's needed. These walking aids can help in the home and also make it possible for people to get around outside the house. People with visual impairments might find a white walking stick or cane useful, and we can also train you how to use them.

Wheelchairs and electric scooters can make it possible for people with mobility difficulties to travel around on their own. We don't provide this type of equipment directly but we can help you find a supplier. When purchasing your own electric scooter, we strongly advise you to consider how you would access your home to arrange recharging the scooter battery, as you may not be eligible for a ramp. This can add additional cost.

There are adaptations to your home that can make it easier and safer to move about. Simple things like grab rails fixed to the wall to help you steady yourself can make a big difference. A stairlift can remove the risk of a fall and ramps can make things easier for people who use a wheelchair. If you would benefit from a home with specialist adaptations, we can help you find a suitable place.
