Safety at Sports Grounds

The administration of legislation in relation to the Safety at Sports Grounds Act is an important function of the division. Building Control are responsible for the preparation, administration and enforcement of the General and Special Safety Certificates. There are three Sports Grounds that require a safety certificate to be issued by the local authority, and six indoor Sports Centres that require an indoor Sports licence. Each certificate and licence is reviewed and renewed annually to ensure that high standards of public safety are maintained. They also inspect these premises in accordance with the recommendations of the Taylor Report and the Football Licensing Authority.
