Social care & support Supporting Working Carers

Are You a Working Carer?

Do you juggle work with caring for somebody?

Do you manage someone who is a carer?

A carer supports a relative, friend or neighbour who couldn't manage without their help due to age, disability, illness, or substance misuse. Carers are not paid for the care they provide.

There are 3 million working carers in the UK. Having a job and caring for someone can prove to be extremely challenging and, in 1 in 5 cases, a carer has to give up work altogether. Every employee is entitled to equal opportunities and new rights will be handed to carers with the publication of the Equality Bill next year. Therefore, it is essential that the rights of carers are understood and that carers are supported to remain in the workplace.
