Redesign of adult drug services 2010-2012

Update March 2012

The Council's Drug and Alcohol Strategy Team (DAST) works on behalf of the public agencies that commission (or buy) many of Manchester's drug and alcohol services. Much of our work concerns the contracts with organisations providing these services.

Following the stages of the redesign of Manchester's drug treatment system, we can now provide details of the three organisations that will be contracted to provide the new services:

  1. The Intake Service will be provided by ADS (Addiction Dependency Solutions). The Intake Service will deliver an easily accessible engagement and assessment service for adults and enable them to access appropriate recovery-focused treatment and support.
  2. The Clinical Service will be provided by CRI (Crime Reduction Initiatives). The Clinical Service will provide an integrated treatment service for adults enabling them to stabilise and reduce their drug use, facilitate recovery and promote abstinence.
  3. The Recovery Service will be provided by Lifeline.  The Recovery Service will deliver interventions to enable adults to become drug free and/or recover from their addiction to drugs.  This will include promoting and supporting reintegration (housing and employment).

What will happen next?

Late March - July 2012
Current service providers will operate as normal and there will be ongoing work between them, the new providers and the DAST to manage the transition. There will be ongoing communication activity around the new treatment system and further information will be made available over the coming months.

1 July 2012
The three new services will start.
