Family Intervention and Support Service (FISS)

About The FISS Project

What is the FISS project?

Most families and young people need help from time to time. The FISS teams provide support for children and young people aged 0-18 years and their parents or carers.

Our staff have a great deal of experience of helping families and young people. They provide a friendly, safe and respectful environment in which families can work together to find solutions to problems and conflicts.

What does FISS do?

We like to see all family members together because we believe that everyone has a role to play in helping to create change. It is you, who best know the problems and are best placed to find the solution.

We have lots of ways in which we work with families and we want you to help decide what is best for you and your family. We can offer sessions at our project, in your home, in schools or in your community.

How to access our service

If you feel you need support, you can speak to your social worker, health visitor, teacher or school nurse. They will be able to send us some written information about your family and their needs.

Alternatively, you can contact any of the FISS teams for information about accessing our service.

What happens next?

After we have received information, we will contact you by telephone or letter and arrange to meet with you to discuss what your needs are and how they are best met. Other services may be invited so that we can all work together to support you.

We aim to offer you support as soon as possible, however, at times there may be a short waiting time before a worker is available, but we are always available for telephone support.

What if you aren't happy with the service?

We like to know what families think about our service. There is information available about how to compliment or make a complaint.

On Track in Beswick and Clayton

North FISS provides an extra service which is part of the On Track project in East Manchester. This is a local project supporting families with children aged 4 - 12 years in Beswick and Clayton. Support is available as soon as you or your child feel you need it: we can help with areas such as:

  • Concerns about your child moving into and settling at high school
  • School concerns about attendance or your child's behaviour
  • Changes or difficulties at home
  • Your child being in trouble with the police or in the neighbourhood

For more information please contact:

Anne Marie Gaucus or Andrea Williams on 0161 740 9545

Opening hours:

FISS is open Monday - Friday 9 am - 8 pm.
