Commercial waste collections
Information about commercial waste
All businesses are required by law, to dispose of their rubbish in a responsible way, and to help keep the surrounding area clean from litter produced as a result of their business.
Examples where we will take action against businesses are:
- businesses or shops who do not have a waste contract in place to remove their rubbish;
- overflowing bins or containers;
- large amounts of litter dropped around shops; and
- illegal dumping of rubbish from businesses.
What you can do
For advice on how to reduce your waste and energy usage, sign up to the Environmental Business Pledge - it's a free advice and reward scheme developed by us, in partnership with Groundwork, to support Manchester businesses in reducing their environmental footprint.
If you see or have evidence that businesses are not disposing of their rubbish responsibly, report this to us.
Business must store their waste safely and securely and only dispose of waste through a registered waste disposal agency, these companies will also offer a range of recycling options for your waste. There are a number of contractors in the area who collect commercial waste - search online or your local business directory (Thomson Local, Yellow Pages etc) for one that suits your needs.
What we can do
We will take action where businesses have no waste contract in place, or where they have overflowing bins / containers, we will also take action where there are large amounts of litter, or if they allow waste to be dumped illegally.
We will serve notices and take action, that require businesses to take responsibility for their waste, failure to comply with such notices will result in a criminal offence.
