Training and advice for mainstream schools on sensory needs
We propose that our sensory teachers provide more training and advice to schools. This would address some of the concerns, particularly from parents, that their children’s needs were not always understood or met when the specialist teacher was not in the school and that schools rely on the specialist teachers too much.
The service will work closely with National Deaf Children’s Society and Royal National Institute for Blind People to develop training for schools, other places where children are educated and other organisations to promote awareness of sensory needs.
The service will also work with these organisations to find the best ways to promoting best practice. There will be a focus on this training at network meetings for school special educational needs co-ordinators.
The consultation closed on Wednesday 8 February.
