Ending a tenancy
A private landlord can only end a tenancy if they follow the correct procedure.
If you don't do things properly, you could be committing an offence.
The method of ending a tenancy depends on what type it is. This is usually decided by when the tenancy started:
- if the tenancy started AFTER February 1997, it's almost certainly an assured shorthold tenancy;
- if the tenancy started BEFORE March 1997, it's likely to be an assured tenancy.
