Miles Platting Neighbourhood Private Finance Initiative (PFI)
The solution
The solution to local problems in the housing and environment of Miles Platting is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI). It means we are bringing in millions of pounds to reshape and renew the whole neighbourhood, improving council properties, building new homes and boosting the quality of life for every resident.
The money is raised through a partnership with a new company carefully chosen by residents and the Council together. The new organisation hand-picked to regenerate and manage the area is the Renaissance Consortium.
Home improvements, new housing
Around 1,500 council properties have already benefited from modern home improvements (Renaissance website). And there'll be more than 1,000 new homes - family houses and apartments for smaller households. Some new homes will be to rent, many others will be for sale.
A new housing service
Local not-for-profit housing association Adactus - part of the Renaissance Consortium - will manage and maintain (Renaissance website) the area's council housing until 2037, but the properties are still owned by Manchester City Council, and the people living in them remain council tenants.
